Running along the Afon Clwedog river, Lady Bagot’s Drive is a beautiful carriageway footpath, created by Lord Bagot for his wife at the time Clocaenog Forest was planted.
Sticking to the main pathway, the Drive is comfortable for most walkers, and spans between the villages of Rhewl and Bontuchel.
Venturing into signed footpaths up into the hills, of which there are many, however proves a different challenge, with some steep ascents and gnarly narrow foot paths.
There is something quite magical about Lady Bagot’s Drive; the way the pathway hugs every twist and turn of the river, or maybe the way the trees arch over as one walks. Then there’s the many small alcoves where children love to jump down the banks next to the river and throw “skimming” stones!
